Social Emotions

Social-emotional skills are vital to connecting with others. They might include experiencing empathy towards someone when you see them experiencing different emotions. They could extend to showing compassion or kindness towards another person in a difficult situation. Or maybe simply showing appreciation and thanks to a teammate for helping with a task. We study what factors contribute to empathy, kindness, compassion, and gratitude. We have established tools to improve some of these skills. And work with teams from different professions (e.g., social and health care; education) to help cultivate and explore the impact of social emotions in the workplace.
